The New York City Department of Environmental Protection, NYC Parks and the Prospect Park Alliance have completed a $1.4 million valve upgrade for Prospect Park Lake, according to a press release from the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
The new valve — replacing an aging 8-inch service line valve — is expected to use 200,000 gallons of water per day, saving about 800,000 gallons per day.
Upgrades will also allow the PPA to have better control of the lake system during rainstorms, preventing overflows to Gravesend Bay and the Upper Bay by up to 12 million gallons a year…
