Jamul man sentenced after pleading guilty to murdering his mother

SAN DIEGO (KUSI/ FOX 5) — A 56-year-old man from Jamul was sentenced to state prison Tuesday after pleading guilty to murdering his mother in their Jamul home in 2024, according to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office.

Travis Bodle was sentenced to 15 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree murder for killing his 77-year-old mother, Vicki Bodle.

Vicki reportedly required caregiver assistance as she had Parkinson’s disease and was partially paralyzed. Meanwhile, authorities say her son Travis suffers from schizophrenia.

According to the DA, on Jan. 19, 2024, Travis attacked his mother with an 8-pound “wood-splitting maul,” which is similar to an axe. When Vicki’s caregiver arrived at the home, she found her seriously injured and reported the incident to authorities…
