ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The next big step in nuclear fusion to New Mexico is now underway. On Tuesday, in Albuquerque’s Mesa Del Sol community, policymakers and scientists gathered as ground broke on a demonstration center built by energy company Pacific Fusion. The billion-dollar, privately funded facility aims to research and eventually provide the state with nuclear fusion energy – a nationwide first.

“Rarely do we have a chance to invest in a foundational technology. Something that has the potential to be transformative, something that we could be known for not just across the country, but around the world,” said Albuquerque mayor Tim Keller.
