For Mountain View High School senior quarterback Vincent Nguyen, it’s all about The Boot. Oh sure, he wants to win every game, win a Region Championship, and lead his team into the State Tournament…but always there is The Boot.
The Battle for The Boot pits the two high schools in the sprawling Marana School District — Marana and Mountain View — in a nonconference showdown that is always played before a packed house, no matter the venue. Nguyen was a Freshman the last time Mountain View won the matchup and took control of the Boot; Marana High has won the last two rivalry games by lopsided scores.
“We really want it,” says Nguyen. “I’m not saying that it’s more important than (winning the Region) and going to State. But, to me, it’s equally important.”…
