Indianapolis saw high temperatures in the 80s with sunny skies Wednesday. A cold front is on the way, and will bring a chance for widely scattered thunderstorms this afternoon and storms will slide southeast across central Indiana. There is a chance for a few severe storms to fire up along the squall line. A slight risk for severe storms is highlighted for the northern half of the state.
There is 40% chance for a severe weather watch for parts of Indiana this evening. Damaging wind gusts, rotating storms and hail are possible, especially when the storms move in after 4 p.m. The cold front will pass over central Indiana tonight and the storm chances will drop late this evening. Up to a half-inch of rain is likely, mainly north of I-70. We’ll have partly cloudy skies with patchy fog overnight as lows fall into the mid-60s.
The area dries out again for the rest of the workweek and we’ll have a streak of sunny days with highs in the 80s through Saturday. Indianapolis has had three, 90° days this month and 17, 90° days this year. A warm up is on the way and highs will be back in the 90s from Sunday through Wednesday. Along with the 90° heat, we’ll have higher humidity. Expect the heat index back near 100° next week…
