Juvenile crime becoming ‘more sinister’ and complex in Jefferson County

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – The deadly bus stop shooting of 2021, ending in a decades-long prison sentence for two men, was one of about 60 juvenile cases being handled in adult court.

Demarioun Moore and Mekhi Cable were both convicted in the death of 16-year-old Tyree Smith. Moore accepted a plea deal ahead of sentencing for a 35-year prison term, while Cable was sentenced to the jury’s recommendation of 60 years in prison.

Their case has been open for nearly five years, making it one of the oldest cases under the purview of the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. Both Moore and Cable were juveniles at the time of the shooting…
