An inmate at the Jefferson County Jail-Bessemer Division was found dead during a welfare check Wednesday night, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
Joey Thomas Reach, 57, of Bessemer, had been held at the jail since July 6 on a capital murder charge.
Jail staff found Reach in his private cell at 8:17 p.m. He was pronounced dead at 8:53 p.m.
A postmortem examination is scheduled for Thursday to help determine his cause of death. Investigators said there was no evidence of foul play at this time…
