Fong brings together farmers, water agencies to discuss lingering Golden Mussel threat

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Yesterday Central Valley Congressman Vince Fong met with community and industry leaders to discuss one of the biggest – and fastest growing threats – facing Kern County and the rest of the region: Golden Mussels.

The tiny mollusks entered California’s interconnected waterways nearly two years ago and have quickly posed a threat of choking out the Central Valley’s water in canals, pumps and reservoirs the region depends on.

The roundtable with Fong brought together water agencies, farmers, farm bureaus and local government officials to coordinate action around the environmental emergency.

Fong said that Golden Mussels are one of the “most urgent threats to the Central Valley’s water infrastructure.”…
