Street Takeover Ends in Restaurant Robbery, Prompting LASD Crackdown

LOS ANGELES – More than 100 vehicles swarmed an intersection Sunday night before three masked men allegedly robbed a nearby restaurant, prompting the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department to broaden its street-takeover enforcement efforts.

The department is sharing enforcement strategies with other LASD stations as it targets organizers, participants and vehicles used in illegal street racing and takeovers.

Deputies responded around 11:15 p.m. to Downey Road and Olympic Boulevard, where California Highway Patrol officers helped clear the vehicles west along Olympic Boulevard. After the crowd dispersed, investigators learned that three masked men had entered a restaurant in the 4200 block of Olympic Boulevard through its drive-thru window, LASD said…
