As Worcester Public Schools begin to explore options for realigning its districts, there’s already been some pushback regarding the Worcester Arts Magnet School on St. Nicholas Avenue.
During the meeting of the School Committee’s Operations and Governance subcommittee on Aug. 18, several parents and teachers connected with the school spoke out about the district’s proposal to convert it into a neighborhood school, with a potential relocation to McGrath Elementary School.
“This is not a program that could be picked up and plopped into another school,” said Amy Kewley, a parent of a Worcester Arts Magnet School student and head of the arts department at nearby Burncoat High School. She asked the committee whether Worcester Public Schools will have plans and a budget for this proposed move, and whether McGrath would be able to accommodate Worcester Arts Magnet School students…
