‘Sexist’ dress code sparks revolt at Kingwood middle school

A student-led petition challenging Humble ISD’s dress code has topped 800 signatures after an allegation spread that “hundreds” of girls at a Kingwood middle school were cited for dress code violations in one day.

The petition, published by Creekwood Middle School student Valeria Requena, alleges that roughly 150 girls were sent to the school office for dress-code violations on Aug. 20, including about 50 students before the first bell.

But Humble ISD officials disputed that figure Wednesday, saying campus records show 24 students were identified as having a dress-code violation that day. During the entire week, 37 students were identified, representing about 3 percent of the school’s student population. “Information circulating on social media significantly overstated the number of Creekwood Middle School students identified for dress code violations,” the district said in a statement…
