The City of Rockville will begin constructing new 5-foot-wide sidewalks along portions of four roadways in October 2026 as part of an effort to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.
New sidewalks will be installed at the following locations:
- South side of Gilbert Road near the intersection with Edmonston Drive.
- North side of Halsey Road between Gainsboro Road and Rockland Avenue.
- South side of Vandegrift Avenue between Rockland Avenue and Lemay Road.
- East side of Virginia Avenue between Crabb Avenue and Ashley Manor Drive.
Driveways along the affected sides of Halsey Road, Vandegrift Avenue and Virginia Avenue will be temporarily closed during construction.
The sidewalks will be built within the city’s right-of-way, and no trees will be removed. Adjacent residents will receive at least two weeks’ notice before construction begins, while those affected by temporary driveway closures will be notified 72 hours in advance…
