Orange County officials have posted orange-tagged notices declaring several buildings at The Plaza Condominiums in Orlando unsafe for human occupancy, and residents say they still do not know what happens next or whether it is even safe to stay in their own homes. The notices, spotted at the complex off Lake Atriums Circle, read bluntly: danger — this structure is deemed unsafe for human occupancy.
According to WKMG, county records show a field investigation found significant structural and life-safety concerns affecting the first, second and third floors of the buildings. Inspectors also found that egress conditions for residents on the second and third floors do not comply with building code, and that at least one building at 1932 Lake Atriums Drive has only one usable stairway instead of the two required for safe access to upper floors.
One resident told the station the county called the situation life threatening, yet the homeowners association never notified residents directly. Instead, residents reported they were simply told they might receive emails from management, leaving many to learn about the danger tags only after seeing them posted outside their buildings.
