A disabled Navy veteran in Bexar County says a handful of unexplained fees and a months-long lockout from her HOA account snowballed into something far bigger: the loss of her home and the neighborhood she thought she’d settled into for good.
Karina Miller’s account, first reported by KSAT in the original post, lays out a dispute with the Lafayette Place Homeowners Association that she says left her feeling boxed in—sell the condominium, or risk foreclosure while trying to fight charges she says didn’t make sense and wouldn’t stay put.
How a $350 surprise turned into a long-running fight
Miller moved into the Lafayette Place community in 2019. She told KSAT that the relationship with the HOA changed after new management took over.
According to Miller, she replied to an introductory email from the new management and received a response saying she owed $350 in late fees—fees she said she had never been made aware of before. That’s the moment she describes as the start of a dispute that never really found a clean off-ramp.
The portal lockout and “moving” charges
