ABBEVILLE, La. (NEWS 15) — Firefighters from across Acadiana gathered in Vermilion Parish on Thursday to lay to rest a volunteer firefighter who died while responding to an emergency call.
First responders from around Acadiana escorted Fireman Robert Hughes, 49, of Kaplan, who served the Meaux-Nunez Volunteer Fire Department, on his final ride through the parish he served, as many lined the streets of Abbeville for the funeral procession.
Hughes died in a crash while racing to a fire call on Friday, Aug. 21. His death has sent a shock wave through the community…
