MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCBD) – The Town of Mount Pleasant plans to discuss data centers on August 31.
Data centers are facilities that fuel computing services, AI, and are a source for flowing information. There are several concerns about their impacts, and in response, the town will look at ways to restrict them from being built. Leaders said there are no current plans to open one, but they’re hoping to be proactive since current zoning could allow them in light industrial or economic development areas.
“I think we need to understand exactly our current zoning allows and where a data center could potentially be located,” Alex Crosby, council member for Mount Pleasant, said. “I personally want to understand the water, infrastructure, and environmental impacts. I want to hear from our planning, water, and legal professionals. If our current regulations aren’t sufficient, then we need to fix it.”…
