Nurses help fulfill Huntsville Hospital patient’s final wish of baptism

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WHNT) — When an ailing woman in Huntsville Hospital’s intensive care unit gave her final wish – an unusual one – a group of nurses banded together to make it a reality. Huntsville Hospital is sharing their story of compassion that happened in a fourth floor ICU room last month.

Jeannie Guffey was confined to her bed and knew her time was short. The hospital said the 74-year-old was diagnosed with lung cancer last summer and was soon going to be sent home under hospice care.

While still in the ICU, Guffey said her last wish was to be baptized. But that’s hard to do when you’re stuck in a fourth floor hospital room packed with monitors, IV poles and other medical equipment…
