The San Antonio Police Department is investigating a woman’s death after she drowned as a result of severe weather in San Antonio on Friday, August 28. San Antonio Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones confirmed the 46-year-old woman’s death at the beginning of the CPS Energy news conference updating the aftermath of the San Antonio storms that knocked out power to nearly 250,000 homes at its peak, according to officials.
San Antonio interim Police Chief Jesse Salame said that two individuals were in a drainage area near the 500 block of Quincy Street when they were swept away by rapidly moving water as rain poured. Both of the people were carried several blocks downstream before one individual was able to get out of the water in the downtown area.
“SAFD and SAPD were on scene, and they searched the waterway, but they were unable to locate that second individual. Last evening [August 29], a 46-year-old woman was located deceased,” he said. “The medical examiner has the case, and they are looking into all the facts and circumstances surrounding her death. Right now, it is being investigated as a drowning. SAPD has got the primary responsibility for that investigation, and we will provide updates as we receive them.”…
