UPDATE, Monday, Aug. 31 at 4:53 p.m. | Grovetown Police Chief Jamey Kitchens released a statement Monday afternoon on this officer-involved shooting.
According to Chief Kitchens, the suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Alexis Thorpe.
A preliminary investigation states that Investigator Robin Ashmore was stopped at an intersection in his unmarked Grovetown Police Department Ford Explorer, when Thorpe allegedly approached the driver’s door and began yelling and banging on it. Investigator Ashmore reportedly gave Thorpe, who was accused of being armed with a knife, verbal commands to him to step back and drop the knife.
