Aiken County overdose deaths drop by half as statewide fatalities decline

AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW/WAGT) — Aiken County recorded a significant drop of 50% or more in drug overdose deaths, mirroring a statewide decline.

State officials announced Monday that overall overdose deaths in South Carolina fell more than 31% in 2024. According to the state’s latest data, there were 1,481 drug overdose deaths in 2024, down from 2,157 deaths the previous year.
