Atlanta, Fulton County fail to reach deal on city jail before deadline; city sends counteroffer

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Fulton County’s latest offer to purchase the Atlanta City Detention Center has expired after the county and city failed to reach a deal by a Monday afternoon deadline.

Atlanta leaders have now sent a counteroffer.

In an Aug. 10 letter to Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens, the Fulton County Board of Commissioners offered $56.5 million for the downtown jail and requested a response by 5 p.m. on Aug. 31. The county said the offer would expire at that time if it was not accepted…
