Hamilton County, Tenn. — Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office leaders have begun the process of pausing two license plate recognition camera programs amid concerns about public data and the potential misuse of what is captured.
“As of today, I have directed staff within your Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office to begin the process of pausing the Flock License Plate Recognition (LPR) and Motorola LPR programs managed by our Office,” Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff said in a message.
The sheriff said the directive had been weighed over several weeks and was based on multiple factors, with the “primary factor” being “the tremendous concern regarding public data and potential misuse of what is captured.”…
