Digging near USC ‘Horseshoe’ leads to 1800s-era relics

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) – An anthropology instructor and 15 Honors College students spent their class digging through relics from their own campus.

An area near the “Horseshoe” may look like the site of a construction project—it is really the site of a local archaeology dig. The Honors College anthropology students were able to glimpse at what life was like on campus during the 19th century.

Students and faculty said they walked past this area for years and had no idea what lied beneath…
