As details of the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s multibillion-dollar choice lanes project crystallize, reality is starting to set in for some Nashvillians who own homes and businesses near Interstate 24: soon, they’ll likely be displaced.
That’s at least what some South Nashville neighbors have learned over the past month or so. Letters from the state started hitting mailboxes in July, outlining that those property owners should expect to be affected by the project adding optional toll lanes along a 26-mile stretch of I-24 between Nashville and Murfreesboro.
TDOT hasn’t shared the full contents of those letters publicly or detailed exactly how many of them have been mailed, citing a desire to protect property owners’ privacy. Instead, the agency says letters were sent to a “limited number of properties that are known to be impacted.”…
