MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – The WMBF First Alert Weather Team is giving you the First Alert to climbing temperatures this week. Heat index values will soar into the triple digits as we work through the first week of September.
Building Heat
High pressure settles in the region for the rest of the week, resulting in warmer temperatures and extreme humidity.
Along the beaches, expect plenty of sunshine with highs reaching the upper 80s to near 90 each afternoon through Friday.
Temperatures inland will soar into the mid to upper 90s by the end of the week.
Factor in the humidity and the heat index will reach between 105 and 110 by Thursday and Friday.
If you are planning outdoor chores, working outside, or scheduling sports practices for children, try to limit your direct sun exposure during peak afternoon hours and drink plenty of water.
Labor Day Weekend
The upcoming weekend will bring a transition in the weather pattern for Labor Day weekend plans.
We’ll kick off the weekend hot and humid. Highs will reach the low to mid 90s Saturday, making it a hot afternoon for beach-goers or backyard barbecues. The heat index will be as high as 105 for much of the day. As a weak cold front begins to approach the Carolinas, a few scattered storms will return by Saturday afternoon.
By Sunday, the approaching cold front will bring additional scattered storms. If you have outdoor family plans, keep an eye on the radar as storms could disrupt afternoon activities…
