Cedar Rapids provides update on stalled roadwork

CEDAR RAPIDS — The city of Cedar Rapids intends to reopen 34th Street SE this fall despite the abrupt departure of the construction company originally responsible for the work.

Shift Companies in mid-August informed the city it would not complete the 34th Street project or a separate road improvement project on the northeast side. The company did not provide a reason for defaulting on the work.
