MADISON, Wis. — The Madison Finance Committee unanimously voted against providing the Office of the Independent Police Monitor with an additional $28,500 for staffing and services.
The 6-0 vote concerned a proposal to amend the city’s adopted 2026 operating budget by transferring $28,500 from the contingent reserve to the monitor’s office. The proposal also would have directed city staff to provide a full accounting of costs associated with the city’s critical-incident response between July 22, the date of the officer-involved shooting of Corey Ruiz, and Sept. 8, the date of the next Madison Common Council meeting.
