Nurse practitioners, physician assistants and medical and health services managers are expected to be among the fastest-growing jobs over the next decade that pay over $100,000, according to the Labor Department.
The nation’s aging population is fueling demand for health care and social assistance workers, and the sector is expected to add more jobs than any other — about 2.2 million through 2035. That translates to roughly 37% of all new jobs.
Nurse practitioner jobs are projected to grow 41% through 2035, faster than any other occupation and nearly 12 times as fast as total employment, which is expected to grow 3.5%. The median annual wage for nurse practitioners was about $132,000 in 2025, compared with roughly $51,000 across all jobs.
