September in the Bay Area is expected to start with a rare taste of rain, but forecasters say the early-month showers are unlikely to signal a dramatic break from what is typically a dry end of summer for the region.
Rain chances will peak Thursday morning, particularly in the North Bay, as a cold front moves through the area, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters put the chance of precipitation in the North Bay at 90%, while Santa Rosa has a 70% chance of receiving at least a tenth of an inch.
