ALBANY, N.Y. — New York State is seeing a decrease in overdose deaths. The state saw a 45% drop in overdose deaths from 2022 to 2025, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control.
In 2022, the state recorded 6,630 overdose deaths, averaging about 18 people each day. Last year, the state recorded 3,775 deaths, about 10 people a day. In a statement, Gov. Kathy Hochul said that although the numbers are trending in the right direction, more still needs to be done to combat the overdose epidemic.
New York has been using the $500 million it received in opioid settlement funds to support addiction recovery services. That includes funding provided to Monroe County to make Delphi Rise in Gates a 24/7 treatment center.
