(KRON) — The Marine Mammal Center says that it has responded to an unusually high number of California sea lions suffering from domoic acid poisoning this year.
More then 100 sea lions have been rescued since the beginning of the year, with most of those cases happening since July 1. The center typically rescues 75 to 90 sea lions for domoic acid poisoning in an entire year.
Over the past week, about 30 seas lions were rescued in Monterey County and southern Santa Cruz County. Additional cases have been reported in San Mateo, San Francisco, Marin and Sonoma counties.
