Savannah to host Canal District discussion shaping the city’s west side

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Residents will have a chance to voice what they want to see in the future as Savannah continues to grow. If you’ve driven around the Canal District you’ve probably noticed how much the westside of Savannah has already changed – especially the addition of Enmarket Arena.

Although the change is far from over. City officials are looking at what comes next – including how new development can happen in the Canal District without pushing out residents who have called the area home for years.

City Council approved the Canal District master plan in October 2025 after years of planning. That plan includes 19 projects aimed at revitalizing the westside of Savannah. One of the first major projects is the historic water works building next to Enmarket Arena which is now undergoing a nine-million-dollar stabilization project…
