Hundreds of lightning strikes caused damage and knocked out power throughout Delaware during a thunderstorm Tuesday night.
A line with reported 80 m.p.h. winds in Chester County blew through the Wilmington area just before 8 p.m., knocking down wires and trees in many neighborhoods, including Lincoln Street in Wilmington.
DelDOT also reported the following road closures, which is likely a partial list:
- PORT PENN: Port Penn Road between Pole Bridge Road and Market Street (Downed Wires)
- NORTH OF NEWARK: Corner Ketch Road at Karrington Drive (Downed Tree)
- PRICES CORNER: Virginia Avenue between Armstrong Avenue and Hillside Avenue
- There’s also been reports of downed trees in Hockessin, Wilmington, Edgemoor, and Houston.
As of 10:57 p.m., Delmarva Power was reporting that 16,375 New Castle County customers (over 7%) were without power generally in a cone from Hockessin to Talleyville and south through the New Castle area, although other areas also had significant outages…
