Elon Musk’s SpaceX facility in Louisiana is promising to be a massive change for the Vermillion Parish area. Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan Bourgeois says it’s hard to overstate how transformational the project will be for the state. “Truth be told, it’s going to put Vermillion Parish at the epicenter of the next frontier,” Bourgeois emphasizes. While she understands that may sound overstated, Bourgeois says the plans are in place and moving quickly.
Perhaps more boldly, Bourgeois predicts the Lafayette MSA could become the biggest population base in the state within the next 10-15 years due to the Vermillion Parish SpaceX center. Bourgeois notes that the area was deteriorating in many ways before Elon Musk’s company came sweeping in with the $100 billion investment that has been made to build the facility in the region.
