Fontana Unified School District welcomed 31,958 students back to classrooms Aug. 6 for the start of the 2026-27 school year, with the academic year scheduled to end May 27, 2027. The return marked the beginning of another school year for students across Fontana as schools resumed regular instruction following summer break.
The return to school came as the U.S. Census Bureau highlighted the start of the 2026-27 school year, estimating that 54.4 million kindergarten through 12th grade students and 5.9 million teachers would return to classrooms nationwide. Teachers represented the largest group among more than 10 million people working in the nation’s elementary and secondary schools, according to the bureau.
