A mother bear and her cubs made a splash over the weekend in Southern California.
On Saturday afternoon, the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) received reports of a sow and her two cubs that were trapped in a water tank near Claremont Wilderness Park’s 5-Mile Loop Trail, according to a statement from the agency. The cistern belongs to the La Verne Fire Department in Los Angeles County.
“The bears were discovered by people walking near the well who heard what they described as howling and investigated,” the CDFW told AccuWeather. “They then reported the incident to authorities.”
Working with the La Verne Fire Department and Los Angeles County Fire Department, the agency rescued the mother and one of the cubs, who were both found in the water tank. To help the bears climb out, responders cut a hole in the ceiling of the cistern and lowered down a ladder…
