Tae Bo creator Billy Blanks returns to Erie home for wellness conference

Billy Blanks, a multi-time world karate champion, actor, fitness guru and the creator of Tae Bo, is coming to Erie to be honored at a health and wellness convention.

Blanks, 70, is the guest of honor during the PA 250 Power and Purpose Wellness Conference on Sept. 12, which will celebrate and honor his legacy and achievements. The conference is being run by Blanks’ niece, Mabel Howard, executive director of the Bethany Outreach Center in Erie.

“We needed to do something that inspired not only Erie and Pennsylvania but America,” Howard said. “There was an opportunity with the Erie County Gaming Revenue Authority. They had money that was awarded to celebrate America and I thought of this project. It not only celebrates the community, but the life of someone special that is rooted right here in Erie.”…
