An Erie veteran says he has been left homeless after a contractor removed the roof from his home, took his money, and disappeared, leaving the property exposed to heavy rain and severe damage.
Meet Jeffery bar a veteran who fought in desert storm and desert shield. bar is from Erie and built a life on west 6th street…. he tells me he is heartbroken-he never thought he’d lose a home that has so much history in it.
“I’m heartbroken because I have a grandson that’s a week old and I was intended to be babysitting them and taking care of them and now I don’t even have anywhere to live. this used to be my grandfather’s house my father’s house” Jefferey Bar, the homeless veteran said.
He took out a four‑thousand‑dollar personal loan because his homeowners insurance warned him, they’d cancel his policy unless he replaced his roof. So, he found a private contractor -paid twenty‑five hundred dollars for materials and fees hoping to get a replacement…but instead he got scammed…
