It’s not something a historian says or a phrase you’ll find on a map. But it’s known to David Alvarado, director of “American Pachuco: The Legend of Luis Valdez.”
His documentary follows the life of the activist, director and playwright who brought the popular slang known as Caló, the Pachucos and Chicano stories from California’s farmworker fields to Broadway and Hollywood.
