Two fires hit Rockford homes overnight, displacing five people on Summerdale Ave

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford firefighters were called to two separate but similar fires late Wednesday and early Thursday.

Around 10:50 p.m., crews were called to a home in the 3100 block of Summerdale Avenue and found smoke coming from the front door and eaves of the house. Officials said the fire was brought under control within 3 minutes of firefighters’ arrival. Three adults and two children were displaced by the fire, with damages estimated at $35,000.

At 4:43 a.m., units were dispatched to the 2800 block of Lapey Street and found heavy smoke and flames coming from the front porch of the house and extending into the eaves. Damage was limited to the exterior of the home, officials said, and no one was injured. Damage was estimated at $25,000…
