North St. Louis resident sounds alarm over neglected vacant houses

WALNUT PARK WEST – A north St. Louis homeowner tells FOX 2 he is desperate for help. He said a line of long-vacant houses on his street, once maintained by a local company, have now seemingly been abandoned for months.

Michael Williams lives on Theodore Avenue in the Walnut Park West neighborhood of north St. Louis. He said his home is surrounded by properties owned in-part by Rise Community Development. Rise describes itself as a “nonprofit organization working to connect communities with local institutions to empower the revitalization of neighborhoods in Greater St. Louis.”

But Rise and neighbors tell FOX 2 that for years, Vatterott Properties has been tasked with maintaining these now-vacant houses. Williams said Vatterott had not been out to mow the lawns on the properties surrounding his home in more than a year…
