Rollover crash shuts down Loop 1604 causing multiple hour traffic delay near Helotes

A rollover crash reported just before 6 p.m. by the San Antonio Police Department is causing major delays near Helotes right in the middle of rush hour traffic.

The San Antonio Police Department posted to social media on Wednesday, September 2 to ask drivers to seek alternate routes away from the crash on North Loop 1604 West headed southbound and Bandera Road. “The highway will be shut down for an extended period of time,” they said in the post.

According to traffic reporting website SigAlert, the crash was reported to officials at about 5:15 p.m. at Loop 1604 South between FM-1560/Hausman Road and TX-16, which is backed up to I-10/US-87. The frontage road also seems to be overloaded, according to the site. A look at TxDOT cameras shows traffic has slowed to a halt in the area. As of now, traffic is being diverted off the Hausman exit. What was originally labeled as a possibly one hour delay in traffic has now turned into a two hour delay in traffic near the road, according to SigAlert.

The San Antonio Police Department did not release any information on what may have caused the crash, how many vehicles may have been involved or how many injuries, if any, there are to report. But they are asking drivers to find other routes to travel.
