Less than three years after starting in her sport, a Sioux Falls 13-year-old is a world champion.
Blythe Halfpop brought home the gold from the International Aerial Arts Organization’s world championship competition in Aruba last month, competing for Team USA in the silks event days before her 13th birthday.
“I couldn’t really believe it at first,” said Halfpop, who just started eighth grade at Edison Middle School. “There were really good people in the category, and I was just really surprised and happy.”
