Wearable ‘Life Vest’ saves Montgomery man’s life as Jackson Hospital doctors look to educate public

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Waiting for a permanent implantable defibrillator can take months. That is why health professionals at Jackson Hospital are hoping to educate the River Region community about a critical, temporary tool that is saving lives in the interim.

It may not look like much, but the wearable defibrillator, known as a ZOLL Life Vest, is used regularly by Jackson cardiologists to provide a vital safety net for patients recently discharged from the hospital.

The device is designed for individuals with weak hearts who are at high risk of sudden cardiac arrest caused by malignant or life-threatening heart rhythms. When these patients are discharged, they are treated aggressively with medical therapy…
