A new drought monitor was released on Thursday, September 3, and it shows rapidly worsening drought conditions in Arkansas.
With data through Tuesday morning, September 1, over 17% of the state is in extreme drought, or the second-highest drought monitor category on the scale. This is an increase of nearly 5% in extreme drought from last week’s drought monitor.
Also, since the last drought monitor, released Thursday, August 27, over 7% of the state has been added to the severe drought category and over 3% of Arkansas has been added to the moderate drought category.
0.99% of Arkansas is under exceptional drought, which remains unchanged from last week. This is the highest drought category on the scale, residing in southeastern Arkansas. Exceptional drought continues in parts of Drew, Desha, and Chicot Counties…
