Alachua County is under mosquito-borne illness advisory

Alachua County is under a mosquito-borne illness advisory alongside six other Florida counties as cases of dengue fever are increasing across the state. Under such an advisory, residents should protect themselves from mosquito bites due to local disease activity.

Another three counties in Florida are under a mosquito-borne illness alerts, meaning health officials have detected increased disease activity, disease-carrying mosquitoes or locally transmitted human cases.

From Aug. 23 to 29, the Florida Department of Health reported 32 confirmed cases of dengue fever statewide, bringing the total cases this year to 73. Hillsborough County has reported 59 confirmed dengue cases this year, the highest in the state…
