Manatee Makes Triumphant Return to the Sea After Recovering from Collapsed Lung and ‘Serious’ Injury

Citron underwent several procedures before she returned to her natural habitat in Crystal River, known as the Manatee Capital of the World

SeaWorld Orlando is celebrating a special milestone for one of its rescued manatees.

On Aug. 31, a.k.a. National Zoo Awareness Day, SeaWorld Orlando highlighted the remarkable journey of one of its manatees. The marine mammal, Citron, came to them with serious injuries and an untreated condition — but now, finally, she’s leaving in better health.

In a post on Facebook, SeaWorld Orlando shared clips of the manatee, Citron, slowly building her strength back with the help of the park’s team.

“After suffering a serious watercraft injury and being diagnosed with a pneumothorax (a condition in which air becomes trapped in the chest due to a damaged lung), Citron underwent multiple procedures and months of specialized care at SeaWorld Orlando,” the post read…
