CITY HALL — Mayor Brandon Johnson’s administration has revised its proposed Protecting Renters Ordinance, making key changes in an effort to get it passed this month.
The updates, being circulated to alderpeople this week as City Council returns from its August break, would exempt small landlords with six or fewer units from several of the legislation’s provisions and reduce relocation payments.
Johnson introduced the ordinance in June, aimed at protecting renters from eviction and predatory landlord practices, calling it the first major update to the city’s housing laws since Mayor Harold Washington’s administration in the mid-’80s…
