Indianola man charged for assaulting pregnant woman, police say

INDIANOLA, Iowa — An Indianola man has been charged with domestic assault after police say he punched a pregnant woman in the face and fought with officers.

The Indianola Police Department arrested Anthony Dickerson, 27, and charged him with the following,

  • Domestic Abuse Assault – Injury or Mental Illness – 1st Offense, Serious Misdemeanor
  • Obstruction of Emergency Communications, Simple Misdemeanor
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Simple Misdemeanor
  • Interference with Official Acts, Simple Misdemeanor

Just before 3:00 a.m. on Thursday, officers were dispatched to an apartment complex located along S R Street for a domestic disturbance. Police say they could hear two people arguing upon arrival, and Dickerson initially refused to open the door.

According to Indianola Police, when Dickerson opened the door, he yelled at officers, then tried to shut the door. Officers forced entry, where they say they fought with Dickerson. One officer sustained a minor abrasion. Once law enforcement entered the apartment, they detained Dickerson.

Police spoke with the victim, who said Dickerson punched her in the face, held her down on the bed so she couldn’t call 911, and left a scratch mark on her inner thigh, according to a criminal complaint…
