Little Rock School District plans major restructuring, campus closings

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Little Rock School District (LRSD) officials cited financial strain coupled with declining enrollment numbers as a reason for the district to commit to a short-term restructuring plan.

Officials said the FY28 Short-Term Resource Equity & Strategic Redesign Plan will be presented to the board in October 2026. The plan outlines short-term recommendations that could be implemented during the 2027-28 school year, if approved, to address the district’s immediate needs, preserve investments in instruction and expand educational opportunities for students, officials said.

Several community meetings are scheduled in advance of the plan’s presentation to the board.

The plan hinges on protecting students and classrooms before buildings, officials said, while improving educational equity by expanding student access to learning and other services.
